(1) Casting performance
The ability of metals and alloys to be cast into excellent castings after smelting is called casting performance. Casting performance mainly depends on the fluidity, shrinkage, composition uniformity and segregation tendency of liquid metal.
① Mobility. The ability of liquid metal to fill the mold cavity is called fluidity. The metal with good fluidity can easily fill the entire mold, and the casting has precise dimensions and clear contours. If the fluidity is not good, the metal cannot fill the cavity well, and the casting of the desired shape cannot be obtained, and the casting will be scrapped due to "lack of meat".
The fluidity is mainly related to the chemical composition, casting temperature and melting point of the metal material. For example, cast iron has better fluidity than steel, and it is easy to cast castings with complex shapes. For the same metal, the higher the casting temperature, the better its fluidity.
② shrink. When the metal material is solidified from liquid to solid, its volume shrinkage is called shrinkage. That is, the volume and size of the casting decrease during solidification and cooling. The shrinkage of castings not only affects the size, but also causes defects such as shrinkage cavities, porosity, and internal stress in the castings; especially during the cooling process, it is easy to deform or even crack. Therefore, the metal material used for casting should be selected with a small shrinkage rate as much as possible. The size of the shrinkage mainly depends on the type and composition of the material.
③ The influence of uneven composition on the quality of the workpiece. When casting, it is difficult to obtain castings with a very uniform chemical composition. After solidification of castings (especially thick-walled castings), inhomogeneous chemical composition will appear in different parts of the cross-section and different areas inside the grains, which is called segregation.
Segregation can make the structure and properties of various parts of the casting inconsistent. The chemical composition of the casting is not uniform, which will reduce its strength, plasticity and wear resistance. The main reason for segregation is that the alloy has a wide range of solidification temperature, high pouring temperature, fast pouring speed and cooling speed.
Severe segregation will cause great differences in the mechanical properties of various parts of the casting and reduce the quality of the casting.
(2) Stamping performance
The degree of difficulty with which metal materials can be formed under pressure processing (forging, rolling, etc.) is called pressure processing performance. It is related to the plasticity of metallic materials. The better the plasticity of the metal material, the smaller the deformation resistance, and the better the pressure processing performance of the metal material.
①Forgeability. The forgeability of metal materials refers to the ability of metal materials to change shape without cracks during press processing. Steel can withstand hammer forging, rolling, drawing, extrusion and other processing techniques, showing good forgeability.
②Forgeability. The ability of a metal to withstand working under pressure is called malleability.
